The Lovers Card VI

Key: Innocence, Confusion

This card represents many things to many people. It can symbolize the innocence of first love or the lasting power of a love between old lovers of many years.

There is usually three figures in this card: a nude woman and man and an angel looking down on them both. The man has a bush behind him and he is looking intently at the woman. The woman has a tree behind her with apples and serpent and there are clouds that separate them.

I have also read of the man symbolizing the consciousness, the woman symbolizing the in-consciousness (unconsciousness or subconsciousness) and the angel Raphael symbolizing the super-consciousness. I believe the confusion that comes from not communicating with our subconscious mind, taking time to remember and interpret our dreams or listen to our bodies, can create tension between these parts of ourselves, causing separation. We must listen to our intuition and our bodies in order to be whole.
